Karen Bergreen is an amazing teacher and person. She is both encouraging of my talents and also offers gentle corrections to make my work better. Working with Karen has given me confidence to continue to write and perform stand-up, which has led me to opportunities I wouldn’t otherwise have, such as producing my own shows. Everyone should take her class.

I have just completed my second workshop - and a private session - with Karen Bergreen and literally can’t speak more highly of her. She is an INCREDIBLE teacher who blends constructive criticism with love and support, never wavering in her encouragement. She’s a warm person who is approachable and inclusive, which makes stand-up much less intimidating. She has a gift for pinpointing what is unique about each of her student’s styles and personalities, and then for showing them how to cultivate and turn that uniqueness into an act. Her insight into the art and business of comedy is invaluable, and I consider her not only a mentor but a friend. I would take her class again and again and learn something new each time.

When I think about why it took me so long to take the first steps to becoming a stand-up comic, I realize the answer immediately. I had to find Karen Bergreen. Upon entering my first class with Karen, she welcomed us all and instructed the class that this was a safe place. A place where we would be able to take our first steps to becoming comics and be offered positive feedback. I learned so much from Karen in that first class, that I couldn’t wait for our next lesson. By the time I took the stage at Gotham Comedy Club for our final, I know I was ready thanks to her. Don’t wait as long as I did to find Karen Bergreen!

Karen Bergreen made my Manhattan Comedy School experience amazing! Any nervousness I had prior to attending the 1st class, was quickly erased, once Karen introduced herself and explained what we were going to do over the next 7 weeks. Karens attentive listening and positive analysis and input, made me feel so comfortable each and every week. I had no experience in comedy, theatre, music or stage , but after 7 weeks I felt excited and comfortable enough to give Stand Up Comedy a try! Karen truly helped me enjoy my foray into comedy!

Karen Bergeen’s class at Manhattan Comedy School was a great experience. Karen not only helps each comic find and develop their own voice, but her guidance gave me a strong foundation to move forward once the class was over. Within two years, I was able to book paying gigs and perform at festivals across the country. Highly recommend.
